WE RAISED THOUSANDS BY SELLING NEW YORKERS SHOES MADE OF VEGETABLES
On a Spring night in Harlem, my agency Tall Poppy launched a one-of-a-kind exhibition to encourage NYC elites to donate to Harlem Grown — an iconic organization turning adbandoned lots into urban farms.

VEGETABLE PAINT EXTRACTED FROM CARROTS AND SPINACH
We partnered with a chemical engineer to extract vegetable paint from Harlem Grown's own vegetables. The canvas? Nike AirForce 1 sneakers — the undisputed kicks of Harlem. New York artists painted the sneakers and created art no one ever created before.

FIVE ARTISTS AND A BEYONCÉ COLLABORATOR
Artists were carefully chosen for their styles and stories, reflecting Harlem’s diversity while maximizing the exhibition’s social reach. Artists like Laolu Senbanjo, known for intricate Nigerian patterns, collaborates with Beyoncé, Burna Boy and J Balvin. Artists like Harlem-born Dr. Lisa Whittington chronicles the Black experience through her art, and produced the opening titles for Apple TV’s Swagger.

A SOLD OUT SHOW AND NATIONAL MEDIA AWARENESS
The art sneakers were revealed at our exhibition and auctioned online so the world could participate. All sneakers were sold and two pairs were purchased by Mark Ecko, founder of global street wear brand Ecko Unltd. PR from Hype Beast and Essence Magazine helped the spread the Harlem Grown story far from the city.
